Measuring beakers can be used to measure the volume of a liquid, but the scale on them is often not very precise.
For this reason, they are normally used when the accuracy of the reading is not important, and are often used for mixing liquids together.
If you want to take a more precise measurement of the volume of a liquid, you must use a measuring cylinder.
