The pinhole causes the image to be upside down on the screen as light travels in straight lines and the light coming from the top ends up at the bottom (and vice-versa)
Light from the top of the object arrives at the bottom of the screen, and light from the bottom of the object arrives at the top of the screen. This happens because the light rays cross over at the pin-hole, causing the image to be inverted.
