All Textbook Topics - Forces and Motion - Balanced and Unbalanced Forces on objects that can move - If an object has two forces acting on it in opposite directions and with different magnitudes, then the forces on that object are unbalanced

If an object has two forces acting on it in opposite directions and with different magnitudes, then the forces on that object are unbalanced

The two diagrams below show objects with two forces acting on them. The forces are acting in opposite directions and have different magnitudes. This means that the resultant force is unbalanced.

Hint: Magnitude means the size of the force. A 10N force has a greater magnitude than a 3N force.

Previous
A solid object with balanced forces is either stationary or is moving at a constant velocity
Next
An object with unbalanced forces will experience a change in velocity (an acceleration)
