Magnetic materials are not always naturally magnetic, and must first be magnetised

Magnetic materials are materials which can be magnetised. Magnetic materials are not always magnetised.

In nature, magnetic materials can be magnetised when still in the ground, but they are not always. The degree to which they are magnetised is random in nature. You must go through a process of magnetisation to cause a magnetic material to be strongly magnetised.

We will look at methods of magnetisation in a later learning objective.
