There are two types of electric charge, positive and negative

There are two types of electric charge, positive and negative.

You can represent positive and negative charge in a number of ways:

  • The most common way to represent positive charge is with a 'plus sign' in a circle, although often the circle is not drawn.
  • The colour red often indicates positive charge, but is not required.

  • The most common way to represent negative charge is with a 'minus sign' in a circle, although often the circle is not drawn.
  • The colour blue often indicates negative charge, but is not required.

If you have an equal number of positive and negative charges then you have a neutral charge as they balance out.
